BEDWAS head coach Steve Law is delighted that his charges have found their cutting edge as they prepare for a tricky Principality Premiership trip to Aberavon, writes Chris Kirwan.

The Bridge Field side have climbed to fifth in the table, 10 points back on third-placed Carmarthen Quins with a game in hand, thanks to impressive victories against Llanelli and Cross Keys.

They won 42-37 at Parc y Scarlets then won a Gwent derby cracker 37-31, crossing for combined total of 10 tries against a pair of playoff-chasing rivals.

"Two good five-pointers gives us a better-looking league position and means we are still in contention," said Law.

"We have lost six games by a score or less so it certainly hasn't been a bad season and it isn't finished yet.

"We deserved our wins against Llanelli and Keys and it was pleasing that we played with endeavour and energy but also were clinical.

"Earlier in the season we were being hit hard by mistakes but have taken our opportunities recently and our work off the ball, our support play and lines of running, has been excellent."

That will need to continue against an Aberavon side that are far better than their lowly 10th position suggests.

The Wizards won at Bridge Field in 31-24 and have enjoyed January league wins against Newport and Llandovery while Cross Keys only denied them with a try at the death.

"On paper Aberavon are a top Premiership side and there is no doubt that it will be a very difficult game," said Law.

"They have an excellent scrum, their work rate is good and their back row is destructive. They did a job on us at the contact area and so did Keys last week, so we will need to improve then."

Bedwas will be without 19-year-old lock Joe Davies, who is set to be involved in Newport Gwent Dragons' game against Exeter on Sunday before joining up with Wales Under-20s for the Six Nations.
