BEDWAS head coach Steve Law says he side cannot afford to be as loose as they were against Pontypool if they are to upset Principality Premiership title hopefuls Carmarthen Quins on their own patch, writes Chris Kirwan.

The Bridge Field safely negotiated a Swalec Cup tie against Pooler on Wednesday night, running in seven tries in a comprehensive 46-10 victory.

Bedwas, sixth in the league and 15 points back on the third-placed Quins, played some fine attacking rugby but were also guilty of getting a touch carried away with their offloads.

"We created lots of opportunities against Pontypool but made too many mistakes," said Law. "Hopefully the boys won't be as loose because we won't get away with that against the Quins.

"It's a totally different challenge and a different mentality will be needed. They are contenders for the title and are well-coached, very accurate and everybody does their job.

"Any team has to play to the best of their ability to get a win in Carmarthen."

Bedwas will be boosted by the presence of Newport Gwent Dragons forward Matthew Screech at lock. The 22-year-old is allocated to the Bridge Field outfit, although he has also played for Cross Keys and Newport so far this season.
