HEAD coach Steve Law says playoff-chasing Bedwas will need to produce one of their performances of the season if they are to stay in the hunt by repeating last year’s excellent win at Llandovery this evening (kick-off 7.15pm).

The men from Bridge Field have kept themselves in the frame with bonus-point wins against Newport and Bridgend but cannot afford another slip if they are to reel in third-placed Cross Keys, who are currently four points ahead with a game in hand.

Bedwas triumphed 17-12 when the sides met in Llandovery last season thanks to four penalties by fly-half Richard Powell and a try by wing Rory Budina.

Their hopes of enjoying another success at Church Bank are hit by a lengthy list of absentees that includes prop Joe Mills, lock Josh Walker, back row forwards Alwyn Lee and Dan Crimmins and wing Rory Budina.

However, Bedwas have won seven of their last nine games with their only disappointments coming in tough away fixtures at Aberavon and Pontypridd.

“There’s no room for error and it’s a big ask going to Llandovery on a Friday night with lots of injuries and a depleted squad,” said Law.

“It will need a huge effort to go up there and win and everyone will need to put in a big shift and play to their maximum potential.

“But we have been in a good place recently and can still do it – our defence will be key and if we create opportunities we have to take them, especially early on.”

Bedwas, who travel to Cross Keys in the quarter-finals of the Swalec Cup, have a tricky away game at second-placed Ebbw Vale to come before they end their season with home encounters against Cardiff and Neath.
