EBBW Vale hope to profit from double trouble next season after signing centre Dom Franchi to link up with his twin Joe at Eugene Cross Park, writes Chris Kirwan.

The 21-year-old centre, who went to Brynmawr Comprehensive, has joined the Steelmen after three seasons with Newport.

Franchi first appeared for the Black and Ambers as a member of the Dragons academy and penned a deal with the club when released by the region, going on to make 49 appearances and score six tries.

He will now join hooker Joe in the Ebbw ranks as the club attempt to go one better than last season's runners-up finish in the Principality Premiership.

Franchi will fill the void left by South African Carl Meyer, who could yet feature for the Steelmen when not required by Newport Gwent Dragons, and joins Jordan Howells, Adam Jones, Nathan Preece and Dragons academy prospect Patric Lewis as midfield options.

The Steelmen fielded twins Rob and James Lewis – whose dad, Steve, and granddad, Ernie, both played for the club – in the 2008/9 season.
