COACH Steve Law has called on Bedwas to show more of a cutting edge when they travel to Church Bank to take on in-form Llandovery on Saturday (kick-off 1pm), writes Chris Kirwan.

Bedwas enjoyed a 26-16 win against Neath at Bridge Field last weekend but their wastefulness meant that a bonus point slipped through their fingers.

Failure to take their chances the previous week left them having to settle for a losing consolation point against Newport at Rodney Parade.

Law is under no illusions that they must not be as profligate against the Drovers, who are attempting to bounce back after a 34-16 loss at champions Pontypridd, their first disappointment of the campaign.

“The result was the most important thing,” he said. “The bonus point went begging through not finishing our opportunities again but we took enough to get the win.

“Would like to think we will improve on that front at Llandovery and we will have to because they are in a rich vein of form.

“They were very competitive last week and i felt the score flattered Ponty. They have a similar group of players to last season but are playing with confidence.

“But if we play to our potential then we have a side that can cope with them – we have to be direct, physical, must hold onto possession and stifle their space because they are a very creative side.”

Bedwas are thankful for the presence of Dragons locks Cory Hill and Matthew Screech and flanker Josh Skinner in their XV after being down to the bare bones in the back five of their pack.

Deri Mattravers, Sam Feehan, James Sawyer, Geraint Edmunds and Lance Randall are all injured while Dragons prospect Joe Davies is unavailable because of college commitments.

“The Dragons have really come good for us and we would have struggled to put a side out without them because we’ve been decimated by injury,” said Law.
