GREG Woods says Pontypridd have “steamrollered” all in front of them this season but is confident his Cross Keys side can rattle the Principality Premiership champions.

Ponty head to Pandy Park on Saturday (kick-off 12.30pm) with a perfect six bonus point wins from six games but Keys have been in pretty good form themselves.

They started the season with a pair of frustrating losses to Llandovery and Cardiff but have responded with four wins on the spin, the latest a superb 26-24 success at fellow title hopefuls Ebbw Vale.

Woods, however, acknowledges that this weekend is the litmus test.

“We are so excited by this because we are confident thanks to our winning streak while Ponty have just smashed everyone,” he said.

“It’s a huge challenge but one that we are up for. The first half at Ebbw Vale was the best that we have played for a long time, and that includes our long winning run at the end of last season.

“There was 43 minutes of ball in play time and we need to repeat the level of performance from Eugene Cross Park, if not better it.

“If we do that then I am confident we can cause Ponty some trouble and rattle them. I’ve watched them on the tapes and they have been steamrollering sides but if we play to our potential we can win. We’ll see come 2.30pm.”

Keys’ strong performance at Ebbw means that changes will be kept to a minimum, although Angus O’Brien is the latest victim of the curse in the 12 jersey.

The Newport Gwent Dragons fly-half suffered a blow to the ribs to join Phil Williams and Nathan Williams on the sidelines.

Polu Uhi is poised to move to midfield from the wing while the young Dragons will get another chance to impress.

“I was really proud of how (tighthead) Leon Brown, (loosehead) Luke Garrett and (lock) Scott Andrews performed at Eugene Cross Park,” said Woods.

“It was another step on the road in terms of their development and hopefully they will continue to make progress against the best in the league.”
