NEWPORT, Pontypool and Bedwas play their rearranged Swalec Cup ties on Saturday knowing that victory could potentially earn a mouth-watering round two derby clash.
The Black and Ambers host Carmarthen Quins this weekend and, no doubt to the despair of the hard-working Rodney Parade ground staff, have been drawn to have home advantage again versus either Pontypool or Bedwas.
Newbridge had a bye in round one and will be looking to cause an upset when they head to Principality Premiership pace-setters Llandovery.
Ebbw Vale are also on their travels when they go to Newcastle Emlyn while Cross Keys will either visit Beddau or holders Bridgend.
If SSE Swalec Championship leaders Merthyr make it past Narberth then they will take on Llanelli at Parc y Scarlets, Pontypridd host Bridgend Athletic, Neath or Bargoed will entertain Cardiff Met while Aberavon head north to face RGC 1404.
Ties are to be played on the weekend of February 6 with Wales taking on Ireland in Dublin in the Six Nations on the Sunday.
Draw: Beddau/Bridgend v Cross Keys, Newport/Carmarthen Quins v Pontypool/Bedwas, Llanelli v Narberth/Merthyr, Llandovery v Newbridge, Newcastle Emlyn v Ebbw Vale, Pontypridd v Bridgend Ath, Neath/Bargoed v Cardiff Met, RGC 1404 v Aberavon
- The Newport RFC Former Players Association are holding a reunion before the cup clash with the Quins on Saturday.
All former Black and Ambers are invited to the event in the Premier Lounge of the Bisley Stand.
In the past the group has largely comprised of players from the 1950s, 60s and 70s but recent seasons have seen a growing number of players from more recent eras.
