ROGERSTONE RFC will be raising funds by holding An Evening with Doddie Weir on the eve of Wales' Six Nations clash with Scotland.

The towering Lions lock will be guest of honour at the dinner at Tredegar Park Golf Club on Friday, February 12 – with a bagpiper booked to make him feel at home.

Weir was a huge presence in the Scottish packs of the 1990s, winning 61 caps for his country and playing in three World Cups.

He played his club rugby with the Borders and Newcastle while he was a tourist on the British and Irish Lions' successful tour of South Africa in 1997, although his hopes of making the Test XV were ended by a knee injury after an act of foul play in a warm-up game.

Tickets cost £30 with the evening also featuring a hot buffet, a comedian and raffle. For more information contact Gwyn Morley on 07590462967 or Rob Newbury on 07748334134.
