IT'S win or bust for Ebbw Vale against Aberavon on Sunday in the first of what they hope will be three Principality Premiership 'cup finals'.

The Wizards' play-off fate can be shaped by Cross Keys' league encounter with Neath on Saturday but for the Steelmen the equation is simple.

If they beat Aberavon in front of the S4C cameras (kick-off 5.15pm) then they will be in third place and heading to either Pontypridd or Llandovery in the semi-final. Lose and they will have to wait until September for their next Premiership game.

The Steelmen have their fate in their own hands thanks to a stunning run of 10 league wins on the spin that ran from November until a loss to Cross Keys earlier this month, a defeat that was followed by a home quarter-final defeat to Llandovery in the Swalec Cup.

"It's like a quarter-final," said head coach Nigel Davies. "For us it's all quite straight forward and it's a good position to be in knowing what we need to do.

"We couldn't have asked for a better opportunity after building momentum with a great run of wins and we have given ourselves a great chance.

"I suppose it was inevitable that we would drop off at some stage after winning so many on the bounce but, after three tough games in a week (Carmarthen Quins away before the two losses), the boys are fresh and eager to go."

Vale are attempting to go one better than 2015 when they beat Cross Keys in the semi-final only to lose to Pontypridd at Sardis Road.

Their challenge has been helped by talisman lock Damien Hudd having his red card for a high tackle in the March win against Bedwas rescinded.

"Aberavon came through against Cross Keys in midweek by playing expansive rugby, putting width on the ball and using their dangerous runners to try and move around a heavier pack," said Davies.

"I expect they will try and do the same against us and playing them is similar to going up against Llandovery, you have to stay switched on in defence and it's about concentration as much as anything else."
