CROSS Keys will attempt to put the heat on the teams above them by bagging a five-point haul from their Principality Premiership encounter with Neath on Saturday afternoon, writes Chris Kirwan.

Keys were top of the table at Christmas but a raft of postponements left them playing catch-up and points on the board appear to have won the day.

A midweek loss to Aberavon has left their hopes hanging by a threat and they now need a favour from the Wizards.

The men from Pandy Park need to beat Neath with a bonus point, then hope that Aberavon turn over Ebbw Vale on their own turf on Sunday then Keys must record another bonus-point victory against Bedwas at Pandy Park on Tuesday.

That combination would see Keys, who suffered Swalec Cup anguish when beaten 21-20 by Carmarthen Quins in the semi-finals last weekend, sneak into third place.

"We've got the target of putting the pressure on but we've also got a determination to finish what has still been a successful season strongly," said Woods.

"It was said in the huddle after Aberavon that we've got two games left and that we have to win them both.

"Senior players spoke well and said that we are not off on tour yet and we know we have to be on the money against Neath.

"After a poor first half in midweek the boys dug deep and got the semi-final defeat out of their system so now we want to finish strongly."

There is, however, a tinge of disappointment that the play-offs are a long shot after looking like strong title contenders at the turn of the year.

Keys, runners-up in 2014 and semi-finalists 2015, have suffered from four losses on their travels to Llanelli, Pontypridd, Newport and Aberavon.

"We haven't quite been good enough (since Christmas) but the margins are small and that probably adds to the frustration," said Woods.

"Losses at Llanelli and Newport have cost us in the league while we were a kick away from being in the final of the Swalec Cup.

"But we can't let things slip. We will pick a strong side for both these games and see where we end up."
