JASON Tovey says he is enjoying his rugby again after the former Newport Gwent Dragons fly-half penned a two-year deal with Edinburgh, writes Chris Kirwan.

The 27-year-old from Risca joined the Scottish side on a short-term contract in March after negotiating an early release from his deal at Rodney Parade, which was due to end this summer.

Tovey headed north with the aim of earning a full-time deal and his decision has paid off with head coach Alan Solomons rewarding him for some excellent displays in the Guinness Pro12 run-in.

The fly-half, who is the leading points scorer in the Dragons' history, will battle with Scotland international Duncan Weir for the 10 jersey and is up for the battle.

"Having the opportunity to come up to Edinburgh and play some rugby was definitely the right move for me and I'm loving it here," he said.

"I couldn't have asked for anything more from the boys over the last six weeks, it's great being out on the field with them and I'm enjoying my rugby again."

He continued: "We're moving ground in January to Myreside (from Murrayfield), looking at what's best for the club and for our supporters. Being at a smaller ground will help create a better atmosphere which will be huge for the boys."

Tovey was man of the match on debut for Edinburgh against Zebre and took his points tally to 32 with starts in the encounters with Leinster, Munster and Cardiff Blues.

Solomons said: "It is terrific news for the club that Jason has committed to us. He is a quality fly-half and an excellent goal kicker, who has added huge value over the past month or so.

"He is also a first class bloke who has fitted in extremely well to the squad. I believe he will make a huge contribution next season and look forward to working with him."

Former Wales Under-20s international Tovey made his Dragons debut in 2008 and went on to score 951 points in 163 games.

The Dragons have signed experienced pivot Nick Macleod from Sale Sharks to battle with Dorian Jones, Angus O'Brien and academy prospect Arwel Robson for the 10 jersey next season.
