PONTYPOOL and Newbridge have named their skippers for the coming WRU National Championship campaign with Rob Nash and Stuart Vokes leading them out respectively on Saturday.

Pooler have appointed flanker Nash as skipper with centre Dan Robinson named as his deputy for the defence of their title.

Hooker Ben Parry decided to stand down as captain to concentrate on his duties at the heart of the front row.

“It is an immense honour to have been awarded the captaincy of my hometown club,” said 31-year-old Nash.

“Having grown up watching Pooler and idolising the many legendary players who have represented the club, I fully appreciate the history involved and the responsibility associated with such a role.”

Hooker Vokes will lead from the front again for ‘Bridge after playing a major part in the Welfare Ground side’s great escape from relegation last season. Lock Anthony Symons will act as his right-hand man.

Pooler start the season with a home encounter against Rhydyfelin on Saturday while Newbridge travel to Narberth, the scene of the terrific win that ensured they beat the drop last term.
