PONTYPOOL Town A and Trevethin A are through to the final of the A Jones & Co Usk Ltd Benevolent Open Cup.

Town A raised their game to beat Clydach Wasps 1-0. The all-important goal was scored by substitute Simon Pugh with a shot 10 minutes into the first period of extra time.

As soon as Pugh came on he tested the Wasps' 'keeper Kurt Jones with some powerful shots. Pontypool Town's own 'keeper Justin Silver made some spectacular saves in the match.

In the second semi-final Trevethin beat Gilwern & District 5-3. Trevethin went 3-0 up after just six minutes of the match.

Gilwern pulled two goals back before half time, but Trevethin added another goal for Trevethin to lead 4-2 at half time.

In the second half Gilwern scored again to pull the score back to 4-3, but Trevethin scored in the last 10 minutes.

Pontypool Town will play Trevethin in the final at Goytre FC on Wednesday, May 7 (kick-off 6pm).

In the Free Press Cup semi-final second leg Gilwern B beat Pontypool town B 2-0, but Pontypool Town won with a 5-4 aggregate. Both of the Gilwern B goals were scored by Matthew Skarratts.

Trevethin FC went further ahead at the top of the Premier Division this week. They played three games, in midweek they had an 8-3 home win over Usk Town. Goalscorers for Trevethin were Dwaine Hunt (4), Stuart James (2) and Shaun Williams (2).

Scorers for Usk Town were Jeremy Barton (2) and Adam Hutchings.

On Saturday Trevethin beat Llanarth 11-2. Goalscorers for Trevethin were Hunt (4), Dean Lewis (3), Gary Butler, Russell Jenkins, Kevin Rogers and Casey Mahoney. Goalscorers for Llanarth were Steven Morgan and Michael Morgan.

On Thursday Trevethin beat visitors Llanfoist 7-1. Trevethin goalscorers were Butler (2), Hunt (2), Dean Lewis, Williams and Nathan Jeremiah. Gareth Williams scored a consolation goal for Llanfoist.

In midweek Lower New Inn beat visitors Pandy 3-1. Lower New Inn's goals came from Jason Williams, Alex Probert and a penalty goal by Gavin Millar. Pandy's goal was scored by Gareth Llewellyn.

Fairfield United played twice this week. In midweek they beat Abergavenny Thursdays at home 3-1 with goals by Daniel White, Dan Jenkins and Karl Heaven. Thursdays' goal was scored by David Lambert.

On Saturday United drew 0-0 away to Mardy.

Blaenavon Blues also played twice this week. In midweek they drew 1-1 away to Division One leaders Clydach Wasps. Ryan Price scored for the Wasps and Leon Catley put the Blues level.

Then on Saturday the Blues beat Panteg 2-1. Goalscorers for Blaenavon Blues were Liam Powell and Nathan Priest. Paul Hale scored for Panteg.

In midweek Panteg had lost 4-2 away at Tranch. Scorers for Tranch were Gavin Rogers (3) and Rhys Jones. Panteg's goals were scored by Tom Daley and Nathan Blackwell.

In midweek Pilcs beat Crickhowell at home 12-1. Goalscorers for PILCS were James Ronan (3), Nathan Edmunds (3), Kevin Brooks, Darren Phillips, Matthew Phillips, Justin Edmunds, Mark Eccleshare and Matthew James.

Steve Carrington scored the Crickhowell goal.

On Thursday Clydach Wasps beat Pilcs 8-0. Goalscorers for the Wasps were Shaun Williams (3), Matthew Williams, Simon Tippings, Kyle Cheshire, Lee Williams and Ryan Price.

On Thursday Govilon had a 8-0 home victory over visitors Race. Scorers for Govilon were Stuart Norman (2), Joshua Jones (2), Ben Burgoyne (2), Lewis Meadows and Craig Phillips.

On Saturday leaders Clydach Wasps won 7-4 away at New Inn. Goal scorers for the Wasps were Williams (3), Ally Paton, Lee Brown, Jordan Jones and Price.

On Wednesday New Inn visited Pen-y-Pound Stadium and beat the Thursdays 4-1. Goalscorers for New Inn were Jeff Tozer (2), Tom Morgan and Ryan Jones. Shaun Moss scored the Thursdays' goal.

Crickhowell finished their season with a 2-1 home win over Race. With 10 minutes of the match remaining Crickhowell was 1-0 down to a Race goal scored by Leyton Coslett. Crickhowell struck twice late on through Bleddyn Carrington and Tom Canning.

Llanarth B visited the Island to play Usk Town B in both sides' last game of the season. Usk Town B established a 7-0 half time lead and ran out 8-0 winners.
