MONMOUTH Under-11s had no answer to Cwmbran who travelled to play in very muddy conditions and a bitterly cold wind.
Sustained early pressure from Cwmbran put Brennan Gait over for their first try, converted by Joel Doughty.
Cwmbran continued to put pressure on the Monmouth defence and Joseph Cowell powered over from a turnover.
Cwmbran again went on the attack and Byron Mutlow powered over from close range, converted by Joel Doughty.
New signing Lewis Hughes-Evans made a great run up the right wing to score his first try for Cwmbran, converted by Lewis Bates.
Monmouth soon found themselves under pressure again at a 5 metre defending lineout, Tommy Maclean touching down the loose ball when Monmouth fumbled the pass back behind their try line.
Doughty converted to make it 33 – 0 to Cwmbran at halftime.
Monmouth upped their game in the second half with good tackling snuffing out quite a few Cwmbran attacks. Monmouth put together some good attacking moves of their own, but just couldn’t finish them off.
Morgan Spence broke through with one of his swerving runs to score, converted by Brennan Gait.
Will Reed’s high work rate had been evident throughout and he was finally rewarded when he streaked down the left wing in the dying seconds for a well earned try, converted by Doughty.
