BEDWAS look to maintain their upward trend when they travel to Bridgend in the Principality Premiership on Sunday, writes Chris Kirwan.

Steve Law's side didn't get the win last time out but they came within a whisker of causing a huge upset against champions Pontypridd at Sardis Road.

It was a tight contest throughout but instead of breaking their duck at the infamous 'House of Pain' Bedwas were condemned to a 16-13 loss after Cardiff Blues fly-half Simon Humberstone slotted a last-gasp drop goal.

Nonetheless, the display showed that the Bridge Field side are starting to gel after a sluggish start to the season that saw them beaten on their own turf by Llanelli, Aberavon and Carmarthen Quins.

"There were so many positives in terms of the standard of our performance at Sardis Road but it was very, very disappointing that we didn't get the win," said head coach Law, who is unlikely to make many changes for the trip to the Brewery Field.

"We made a poor start to the season after a big turnover of players and we kept making the same errors in defence but we have worked hard and improved dramatically

"There's a long way to go in the season but things are looking up and with a bit of luck with injuries – because we have a small squad – we are confident that we will have a good campaign.

"We hope to keep improving at Bridgend and the side that manages the game best in the conditions will come out on top."

Bedwas have finished in the top half of the table for two seasons on the spin and would climb up to sixth if they triumph at Brewery Field.

But they are having to contend with the stop-start nature of the season after failing to qualify for the British and Irish Cup.

Llandovery head to Bridge Field next Friday but Law's team then don't play again until December 20.
