FLY-HALF Jason Tovey aims to help Newport Gwent Dragons put the heat on Leinster again with another pin-point kicking display in Dublin on Saturday afternoon.

The Dragons resume their Guinness Pro12 campaign with a trip to the Royal Dublin Society (kick-off 2.30pm) where they upset the odds 16-14 in February.

The men from Rodney Parade enjoyed a first ever triumph in the Irish capital at the 12th attempt thanks to a disciplined performance and an astute territorial game plan with Tovey, playing at full-back, and Dorian Jones frequently pinning their hosts inside their own half.

"That win means we go there with confidence and sometimes we play better away from home," said 26-year-old Tovey. "It's up to the home team to entertain and we put pressure on them.

"As long as we do that again then there's no reason why we can't win there again. They won't be taking us lightly after last season but we just have to concentrate on getting our game right.

"And after both our games (a narrow loss at Connacht, 13-0 win against Zebre) we have spoken about the need to be more clinical. If we weren't creating chances we'd be more worried but better teams will punish us if we aren't putting points on the board."

The World Cup means the Dragons have waited a long time to get that frustrating night against Zebre on September 11 out of their system.

Leinster is followed by another weekend off before a trip to Glasgow on October 16 and while the schedule is annoying for Tovey – "I think all teams are looking forward to getting back to normal" – the time has been used wisely.

Two new scrum-halves arrived in the summer and the backs have been getting to grips with the contrasting styles of Sarel Pretorius and Charlie Davies.

"Sarel only had a week of pre-season training before the friendlies so it's actually been good to start forming combinations," said Tovey.

"It's useful to help get them up to speed with how the 10s like to play and see how they like to play.

"They are very different scrum-halves. Charlie is more of a game-controlling 9 while Sarel likes to run with the ball and when the weather is good it suits him down to the ground."

Back row forward Lewis Evans has made good progress with the foot injury that forced him off in the first half against Zebre and is in contention for Saturday.

Wing Matthew Pewtner is still out after suffering a concussion in the Singha Premiership 7s win on the eve of the season.
