LLANDOVERY have been assured that if Bedwas come a cropper at Pontypridd on Saturday afternoon then it won't be through lack of endeavour, writes Chris Kirwan.

The men from Bridge Field, whose seventh-place finish is already inked in, head to Sardis Road looking for a shock win that could deny the champions home advantage in the Principality Premiership play-offs.

Bedwas beat Ponty 22-8 in November and if they can do the double over the league's standard bearers then it will open the door for the Drovers to nick top spot and go straight through to a final at Church Bank.

Head coach Steve Law said: "There are no excuses, some people talk about dead rubbers but a team should always have personal pride and ambition to win a game of rugby.

"Yes, Pontypridd have more to play for but we will be doing everything that we can and have worked the squad hard in training.

"We haven't taken our foot off the gas and want to finish the season strongly against Pontypridd and then Cross Keys on Tuesday.

"If we lose then it will be because Pontypridd play better than us and it won't be because of a lack of endeavour."

Bedwas are also fuelled by a narrow 38-34 loss when the sides met in the Foster's Challenge Cup final at Bridgend earlier this month.

They came storming back from a 38-6 half-time deficit only for their last-gasp attacks to be repelled in a breathless encounter.

"It was the way that we lost rather than losing that disappointed us because it was a game that we should have won," said Law. "That adds to our motivation and as ever with Pontypridd, we respect but don't fear them."

Bedwas are still without fly-half Richard Powell (shoulder) and tighthead Joe Mills (neck) but have no other fitness worries.
