ADAM Warren doesn't expect to have another 'perfect' campaign but the Newport Gwent Dragons centre has pledged he won't give up his starting spot without a scrap next season.

The 25-year-old from Burry Port enjoyed a spectacular first year at Rodney Parade after making the move east from the Scarlets.

The once-capped Wales centre signed for the Dragons to get more game time and got his desire by starting all 30 fixtures in the Guinness Pro12 and European Rugby Challenge Cup.

Injuries to Jack Dixon and Tyler Morgan left Warren shouldering a heavy burden and he proved to be up to the task, forming a useful midfield partnership with Adam Hughes.

"It's always a bit of a risk when you leave a team to go somewhere else – I could've gone the season without playing at all – but I came here to work hard and get the rewards," he said.

"It's been a perfect season in that sense, although it's shame that some of the games didn't go our way as a team. If they had it would've been outstanding but it's a record to be proud of.

"I came here to fight for my place and get game time. I was fortunate enough to play in every game, my body has done well and I've managed to sustain playing week in, week out.

"It is a tough ask and looking back there were one or two games when, although I felt I was 100 per cent, my performance dipped a little bit.

"But I managed to get through and I feel like I've played fairly well, so I am happy with my season."

Warren knows that he won't repeat the feat in 2016/17, and not only because of the return of the LV= Cup development competition.

Dixon and Morgan are back to full fitness and featured at the end of last season, Pat Howard and Sam Beard will arrive from Northampton and Edinburgh respectively and Hughes and Ross Wardle will be in the mix.

"When everybody is fit there are a lot of names there and that creates competition to make sure you are at your best every game," said Warren.

"But that was the same last season. I went into every game with that attitude because the boys (Dixon and Morgan) had made a bit of a name for themselves and I thought they would soon be back fit.

"Next season there seven or eight of us and there will be big competition in midfield. I need to make sure every time I take to the field I am pushing for man of the match to make the position my own."
