NEWPORT Gwent Dragons have held discussions over taking on RGC 1404 in a pre-season friendly but the north Walians have jumped the gun in announcing a fixture, writes Chris Kirwan.

The Rodney Parade region have been mulling over holding a team bonding and training camp in the north of the country.

The Dragons have discussed the possibility of a conditioning clash with the Principality Premiership new boys at Eirias Park on Friday, August 5 but nothing has been set up, despite RGC declaring the fixture is going ahead and announcing the ticket prices.

The training camp and friendly, which is unlikely to be a full-blown game, may still happen but nothing has yet been signed off.

The Dragons have three confirmed pre-season games against Cardiff Blues at Rodney Parade on Friday, August 12, Ealing Trailfinders in Ystrad Mynach on Saturday, August 20 and Exeter Chiefs on Friday, August 26.

They are also defending their Singha Premiership 7s crown with the Welsh leg taking place at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on Friday, July 22 with the aim of making it through to finals day at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry on Sunday, August 7.

SUPPORTERS get the chance to grill a few players at the Dragons' Big Barbecue at Rodney Parade next Friday.

The family-friendly event starts at 6.30pm and is in support of Lewis Evans and Ashley Smith's beneficiary year and will feature live music and food, with appearances from Dragons squad members.

The dress code is smart casual and a table of 10 with a player can be bought for £500 while there are silver packages available for £24 and gold packages available for £45 (for the differences in menu see tight5events.co.uk).
