CROSS KEYS made it two wins from two in their Premiership’s Tier 2 campaign after another hard fought win following Saturday’s 9-6 triumph over Llanelli, writes Iwan Gabe Davies.

A power cut had threatened to see the match abandoned and the pitch’s lights did go out completely only a minute before kick-off only to be restored shortly after.

It had caused chaos at Pandy Park in the lead up to the game as the players and officials had to get dressed in the pitch black and a wedding reception party in the clubhouse were temporarily left dancing in the dark.

Wonder if the DJ had any Bruce Springsteen?

When the match started 10 minutes late with the electricity back on, Keys soon opened the scoring when full-back Josh Prosser slotted a penalty which was soon cancelled out by an effort by his opposite number Joseph Scrivens.

The hosts dominated the first quarter and seriously threatened the Ravens’ try-line but had to settle for just another Prosser penalty after 19 minutes.

But it was Bridgend who took the lead after half an hour when number eight Matthew John crossed for a converted try after a neat pop up pass by blindside flanker Tom Morgan.

The visitors extended their lead just before the interval with another Scrivens penalty which saw them lead 13-6.

It didn’t take long for the home side to be back on level terms, just seven in fact.

Using their powerful scrum as a powerful weapon, number eight Ieuan Jones almost cantered over for a try near the posts, Scrivens converting.

But Bridgend, who hadn’t won in the league since they sensationally upset Merthyr 40-10 at the Brewery Field in early November, weren’t going to give in without a fight.

The Gwent Valleys side only regained the lead nine minutes from time when Prosser slotted a penalty after the seriously under pressure Bridgend scrum buckled once more.

Keys had to endure a tense finale, unable to see off a determined Ravens.

Prosser was off target with a penalty but it mattered not as his side got home and dry in the end.
