STEVE Law has told Bedwas fans just how difficult it was for him to leave Bridge Field after 16 seasons.

Law stepped down as the club’s head coach to take up the role of director of rugby at fellow Principality Premiership side Cardiff.

He guided Bedwas to the Foster’s Challenge Cup this season as well as the tier one play-offs.

“I would like to convey my sincere and grateful thanks for all the good luck messages I have received since my departure from Bedwas RFC has been in the public domain.

“It was not a decision I made lightly. I agonised and discussed with my wife and family for many hours before reaching my decision.

“Bedwas RFC has been a huge part of my life for the past 16 seasons and I am rightly proud of the achievements of my players, fellow coaches, directors and backroom staff.

“I would like to wish the Bedwas RFC family every success for the future and I look forward to catching up with you all at the presentation evening on Friday, June 2.”

Meanwhile, the Bedwas directors have called an EGM for next Friday at 7pm.

The club say the meeting is being held to discuss “future challenges and opportunities” following the first team’s successful 2016/17 campaign.

According to the club, difficult trading conditions, exacerbated by irregular fixtures this term, mean Bedwas “must consider its options with a view to continuing success in the coming season”.

Director of finance David Cousins said: “We’ve been through a lot of change both on and off the field this year.

“Many clubs in the division have been struggling and we need to evaluate our position and plan for financial security. We are facing some very challenging financial conditions.

“The decisions we make now will safeguard rugby in Bedwas for generations to come. It is so important we all get behind the club right now.”

Director of rugby Mark Lewis added: “Our boys made some huge achievements last year and Spot (Steve Law) has helped develop a squad of winners.

“It is vital we ensure that the club is in a position to further grow his legacy and win big again next year.”

All members, volunteers, supporters and friends of the club are being encouraged to attend the meeting to have their say.
