ASHLEIGH Harris scored twice as Caldicot Town Ladies FC won their first three points of the season, in a 3-2 win at Cyncoed Ladies, writes Bob Cypher.

In a victory her brother Luke said was a massive result for the team, Ashleigh gave Town the lead in the 20th minute, the first time Town have led in a match this season.

Cyncoed came back, equalising four minutes later and taking the lead just before half-time.

But Kelly Phelps scored Town’s equaliser five minutes after the restart and Ashleigh Harris popped up to grab a deserved winner with 11 minutes remaining.

“It was a massive game for us,” manager Harris said later.

“We have been knocking on the door in the last two games but never managed to pick up our first points, so this was a great win.

“Our work rate was excellent and the character shown by the squad has been fantastic.”

In a great day for Town, the Development Squad won 3-0 at Porth in an Alun Evans Cup tie, thanks to goals from Mikaela Roberts, Sarah Bailey and Taran Fitzgerald.

Assistant manager Gareth Crispin said the team coped well on a boggy pitch.

“The girls showed great belief and character to score at key moments in the game,” he added.
