THE Dragons have suffered a double injury blow with Wales centre Tyler Morgan out for the rest of the season with a foot injury while playmaker Gavin Henson will be sidelined for six weeks with a hamstring strain.

Morgan suffered a Lisfranc fracture when claiming a high ball in training ahead of last Sunday’s Guinness PRO14 clash with Benetton.

The centre, who was only just back from an ankle injury that ruled him out of Wales’ autumn Test series, will have an operation to put in a metal plate this afternoon and be out for five months with the aim of returning for the pre-season of 2018/19.

Fly-half Henson will be sidelined until the PRO14 run-in after also suffering an injury in training last week.

The 36-year-old is expected to be out for six weeks with a hamstring strain, leaving him to target the April league encounters with Benetton and Zebre in Italy then the Judgement Day finale against the Scarlets.

Henson made a superb start to life at Rodney Parade after signing from Bristol but has been on the fringes since an under-par display against Cardiff Blues on Boxing Day.

The 33-times capped playmaker has made 15 appearances this season but has only featured twice since that festive derby defeat, coming off the bench in the narrow loss in Bordeaux-Begles and then starting against the Frenchmen the following weekend.

"Gav felt a bit of a twinge so we decided to give him a scan and it could have been much more serious," said head coach Bernard Jackman.

"If he had played then it could've been a full tear and six months out like Matthew Screech."

The Dragons have started with Zane Kirchner, a full-back by trade, at fly-half in the last four games but the former Springbok had a shocker in the 18-15 home loss to Benetton on Sunday.

Dorian Jones is now set to start at 10 against Edinburgh in Ebbw Vale on Friday with Kirchner likely to move to midfield.

While Morgan and Henson join the injury list, influential back row forward Ollie Griffiths has come off it and is set to feature at Eugene Cross Park.

The dynamic flanker enjoyed a storming 2016/17 that ended with his first cap in Wales’ summer Test against Tonga but has been limited to 10 games this season because of jaw and ankle injuries.

The 22-year-old will feature against Edinburgh for the first time since limping off against Enisei-STM in Newport on December 8.
