JUSTIN Edinburgh is glad to see the back of Barack Obama and David Cameron so he can concentrate on taking Newport County AFC back towards the summit of League Two, writes Andrew Penman.

County were denied the chance to build immediately on last Saturday’s 1-0 win at Portsmouth with their Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie and the League Two clash with Cambridge United both postponed due to the Nato hullabaloo.

The Exiles will now host Swindon Town in the JPT on September 23 but first up is the Cambridge clash on Monday night – once the nation’s police have cleared out of Rodney Parade.

“We would have liked to have played in midweek against Swindon and we obviously have had to put the Cambridge game back to Monday so it has been a disruption,” said Edinburgh of the city’s historic week.

“After that win at Portsmouth ideally we would have played on Tuesday and then Saturday to keep that momentum going.

“But we were aware of it and we’ve just got to deal with it and prepare well for Monday.”

Edinburgh is expecting a tough game against a Cambridge side that beat Carlisle 5-0 last weekend and have adapted well to life back in League Two following promotion via the play-offs in May.

“Cambridge have started very well and carried on where they left off last season,” said the Exiles boss.

“Cambridge and Luton have acquitted themselves well so far, just like us and Mansfield did last season, and they can be competitive.

“But it’s more about us and our performances continue to get better and the results are starting to come.

“The performance against Burton was good and we were disappointed not to get that first three points at home.

“We’ll be looking to put that right on Monday night and I’m encouraged by what I’ve seen of late.

“Anyone who came to Burton would have been impressed by the performance.

“We want to win every game but you can’t do that and as long as we continue to put in the performances hopefully the fans will back us and we can make our home form as good as it was at the start of last season.”
