NEWPORT County manager Justin Edinburgh has tipped the Exiles’ Mr Versatile Robbie Willmott to have a special season, writes Michael Pearlman.

The ex-Cambridge and Luton man was on target for Newport on Monday night as he drilled home an 89th minute equaliser for County.

And by then, Willmott, who is currently being deployed a wingback, was playing just off County’s strikers in the number ten role.

It’s an impressive switch to make and Edinburgh believes Willmott is proving he’s become arguably County’s key man.

“Robbie got the goal at a great time for us and that’s a measure of him, he has that composure and ability to get in the right place,” he said.

“We turned our left back into a number ten on Monday and that’s his versatility, it is what the boy is all about and being able to put him in these different roles, I think that can kick his game on to another level.

“He’s capable and able to play in many position and he and Ryan Jackson are a real handful for defenders.

“Robbie keeps telling me how good he is and how many different positions he can play for me and the way he is playing at the moment, I am finding it pretty hard to argue with him and long may that continue.”
