NEWPORT County AFC powered to their biggest home win since the opening day of last term as they trounced AFC Wimbledon 4-1.

A first half header from ex-Dons man Ismail Yakubu put them on their way before Newport’s strikers finally found their scoring form in the second period.

The Exiles are now seven games unbeaten in League Two after their walking wounded squad that included just five substitutes produced another heartening display.

They’d already missed a few decent opportunities when they took the lead on 18 minutes, Ismail Yakubu powering home a header from Willmott’s dangerous centre.

It was no less than County deserved after a bright start and the momentum taken from going six games unbeaten in League Two was clear to all.

However, the visitors did come back into the contest as the half wore on, Joe Day saving from Sean Rigg before the winger missed the target with an even better chance, Day also watching as Akinfenwa blasted over with a half opportunity.

Newport were uncomfortable with only a slender lead and duly doubled their advantage 20 seconds after the re-start, Joe Pigott sweeping home his first in Amber after Shea parried Zebroski’s efforts to dance around him.

There was no looking back for the Exiles and they made it 3-0 midway through the half but they instantly did their best to put themselves under pressure, Akinfenwa nodding home what proved merely a consolation.

However, County weren't set for a late wobble and sealed the win when sub Aaron O’Connor smashed home in stoppage time to add gloss for Justin Edinburgh's men.
