SATURDAY’S match winner Chris Zebroski is convinced he can fire Newport County AFC into the play-off positions this week.

The striker headed a last-minute winner to seal all three points at Dagenham & Redbridge and now he’s set his sights on doing the same against tonight’s visitors Southend United.

County’s second away win of the season saw them move up to ninth in League Two – two points behind Southend and two points off the play-off places.

And with home games against the Shrimpers tonight and Accrington Stanley at the weekend Zebroski sees no reason why they can’t move into the top seven this week and sustain a challenge for the play-offs.

“Southend will be a hard game but we always seem to do well against the top teams so we won’t be intimidated at all,” said the Exiles striker.

“The gaffer always says that the next game is the hardest game and it will be hard to win three in a row but it’s just another game and we want the three points.

“We’ve got really good home form now and we’ll look to get four or six points this week and push towards the play-offs.

“That is easily realistic,” he added. “I’m quite ambitious and I think we’ve got a good squad here and we’re in promotion form at the moment so long may it continue.”

Zebroski’s last gasp header from Andy Sandell’s cross at the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Stadium was his second in two games after a frustrating start to the campaign for last season’s top scorer.

“I think that is four goals I’ve got now,” he said. “I struggled a bit at the start of the season with injuries but I’m feeling fit and raring to go now.

“Goals help and they’re the best ones as a forward – getting a winner in the last minute away from home – everyone’s happy and you feel like you’ve done a good job.

“We didn’t start well and it wasn’t a great performance but we were delighted to get the three points.

“It shows great character and great belief and will give us a lot of confidence and with these two home games we’ll be looking to push up the table.”
