NEWPORT County boss Justin Edinburgh admits he’s hopeful of tying Curtis Obeng down for the season.

The Swansea City right back in currently on loan at Rodney Parade with Newport having allowed his club-mates James Loveridge and Scott Tancock to return to the Liberty Stadium after their temporary deals expired.

However, Edinburgh admits he’d like to keep Obeng for longer, with negotiations with the Swans yesterday reaching an impasse and set to continue today.

“We would like to keep Curtis, he’s doing a pre-season now with us, effectively,” boss Edinburgh told the Argus.

“But it’s more about us trying to sign the player we know he can be than what we have seen so far, because he’s getting towards that level.

“Curtis is keen to stay if possible, but we are still talking with Swansea.”

Loveridge and Tancock have already returned and Saturday’s clash with Bury is also the last game for Joe Pigott in an Amber shirt. County will also wave goodbye to goalkeeper Joe Day after the Bury clash, but hope to have him back once the transfer window re-opens in January.
