STRIKER James Loveridge has thanked Newport County AFC for making him a better player following his return to Swansea City, writes Andrew Penman.

Loveridge made appearances during his loan spell at Rodney Parade.

The 20-year-old from Llanelli started in midfield in two matches and also played at right wing-back before coming off the bench six times but never earned a start up front.

But after marking his return to the Swans under-21 squad with a goal he insisted that his time with County had stood him in good stead.

“The spell at Newport was a great experience,” said Loveridge.

“It's a little different coming back but I want to do well and maybe get out on loan again in January.

“I feel like I've returned a stronger player, more mature and have a better understanding of the game and what is required.”

The young Swans secured a 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace on Tuesday as they went top of Development League Two South for the first time this season.

Loveridge – who was playing his first game since returning from Rodney Parade – put the visitors ahead after just 40 seconds when he rifled home from six yards out.

Ryan Hedges and Adam King added further goals as Swansea raced into a 3-0 lead at the interval.

But following a second-half fightback from Palace, the visitors had to hold firm in the final ten minutes to secure victory.

“The boys were fantastic,” added Loveridge. “We were passing the ball well early on and really upped our game.

“It was great for me to get a goal and it gave me a boost for the rest of the game. I felt nice and sharp and I was glad to get some minutes under my belt.”
