WEMBLEY hero Christian Jolley is set to leave Newport County AFC in the next 24 hours as he follows fellow striker Danny Crow out of the door at Rodney Parade.

Jolley wrote his name in the County history books with his goal to break the deadlock in the 2013 Conference Play-off Final victory over Wrexham.

And his 14 goals in the 2012/2013 season, having been signed for a then club record fee believed to be £20,000, proved crucial as the Exiles won promotion to the Football League.

The former AFC Wimbledon star also scored on the opening day of last season as Justin Edinburgh’s men started life in League Two with a 4-1 victory over Accrington Stanley.

But injuries have disrupted his progress since that day and Jolley only managed one more goal in the 2013/2014 campaign.

This season he has started only one match – the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat to Swindon Town in September – and recently spent time on loan at Forest Green Rovers before being placed on the transfer list alongside Crow and Lenny Pidgeley.

Jolley's departure is expected to be confirmed by Edinburgh at tomorrow morning’s weekly pre-match press conference and he has been strongly linked with a move to Conference promotion chasers Grimsby Town.

Exiles striker Aaron O’Connor took to Twitter to praise both Jolley and Crow, who was released last week before joining Lowestoft Town in a player-coach role.

O’Connor, who scored the second goal at Wembley in May 2013, said: “Hearing my boy Jolls has left the club. Got nothing but love for this dude and we certainly wouldn’t be where we are now without him.

“I want the No.28 and No.23 shirts retired with immediate effect.”
