NEWPORT County AFC are in no rush to appoint an assistant manager this week, despite former Cardiff City boss Russell Osman being linked to the role.

The club have not denied reports elsewhere that Osman is being lined up for the job by new manager Terry Butcher.

But a spokesman says there is no imminent appointment expected as Butcher is currently enjoying a short holiday.

Osman was at Rodney Parade as Butcher was unveiled on Friday and also watched County lose 1-0 to Oxford United on Saturday.

The 56-year-old most recently worked at Ipswich Town's academy but left as their under-18 coach in August 2013.

Osman played alongside Butcher in the Ipswich defence when they won the 1981 UEFA Cup final against AZ Alkmaar.

He finished his distinguished player career with a brief stint as a Cardiff player and took over as manager in the Welsh capital in November 1996.

Over little more than a year in the Ninian Park hot seat he took charge of 67 Bluebirds games.

Osman was also manager at Bristol City and had caretaker spells in charge at Plymouth and Bristol Rovers.
