RODNEY Parade will host the Junior Premier League Cup Finals day this Saturday from 10.30am, with Newport County AFC Academy under-14s going for glory on home turf.

County star Lee Minshull and his fellow coaches John Nash and Steve Johnson will be there to cheer on the Exiles youngsters against Aylestone Park from Leicester at 12.30pm.

Minshull joined the under-14s coaching team back in August last year and will be swapping his usual role of playing at Rodney Parade for a place in the dugout.

Admission is free for children and just £2 for and the schedule is: U13s – 10.30am Coventry City v WBA Gloucester; U14s – 12.30pm Newport County v Aylestone Park; U15s – 2.30pm South Gloucester v Aylestone Park; U16s – 4.30pm Oxford City v Sandhurst Town.

This is the first time that the JPL finals have been held in Wales and Darren Broadribb, County's junior academy secretary, said: "We would like to thank Mark Jones (head of operations at Rodney Parade) for allowing the finals too take place at Rodney Parade at such short notice."

The tournament began back in September when clubs were put into a league and had to qualify for the cup by finishing in the top eight.

County qualified after wins against Cirencester, Bristol IC, South Gloucester and Arsenal SS (Somerset).

In the last-16 County played Evesham United and after a 3-3 draw, with goals from Lewis Collins, Lucas Murray and Callum Eva, County eventually went through to the quarter-finals with an 11-10 win on penalties.

In the quarters County took on North Somerset in a really close game.

The score at half-time was 1-1 courtesy of an excellent header from County's Rivel Mardenborough.

In the second half County upped the tempo and were rewarded with Owen Taylor hitting a superb strike to make it 2-1.

North Somerset piled on the pressure during the last 10 minutes but County held on to progress to the semi-finals.

The semis took place three weeks ago when County took on Fareham Town from Southampton and came away with a 3-0 win.

Collins, Taylor and Cameron Gaucci got the all important goals to earn County a place in the final.

The County academy under-14 squad consists of boys from all across south Wales but the nucleus of the squad are local lads.
