NEWPORT County AFC will be reunited with former defender Chris Todd in the first of their pre-season friendly matches to be revealed.

Conference outfit Eastleigh have announced that they host Terry Butcher’s side on Tuesday, July 21, at their Ten Acres ground (kick-off 7.45pm).

Experienced defender Todd, who left County for Forest Green Rovers in 2011, has this week accepted the position of assistant manager at Eastleigh for the upcoming season.

Todd was offered the role after last term's assistant Craig McAllister, also a former Exiles player, was released by the Spitfires.

The 33-year-old, who is in the twilight of his playing career, made just ten appearances as player-coach for Eastleigh last season – the club’s first in the Conference.

He spent much of the season joining manager Richard Hill on the touchline, and has now been given the opportunity to be his number two.

Having originally joined the club in January 2013 from Forest Green, Todd has been a big part in Eastleigh's rise to the Conference and will be able to call upon a vast amount of knowledge in his new role.

Todd, who recovered from chronic myeloid leukaemia in 2009, also played for Swansea City, Drogheda United, Exeter City, Torquay United, Salisbury City and Hereford United.

Eastleigh could also have former Exiles striker Yemi Odubade in their ranks after he was offered a new contract to stay at the club this week.

County have also confirmed three other friendly matches to be played before the Eastleigh trip and hope to announce further fixtures soon.

Butcher's boys will play at Undy on Tuesday, July 7 (kick-off 7pm), at Port Talbot Town on Saturday, July 11 (kick-off 2.30pm), and at Bath City on Tuesday, July 14 (kick-off 7.45pm).
