NEWPORT County AFC manager Terry Butcher says the departure of chairman Les Scadding will not affect his position at the club.

Scadding announced his intention to stand down as chairman and director with immediate effect this morning.

The 58-year-old Euromillions lottery winner follows 15 players and six members of staff who have all left Rodney Parade in the past month.

But Butcher has assuaged any fears that he could also walk away from the club, insisting he’s committed to the Newport County revolution.

“I can’t say too much about Les because I never worked with him,” said the former England captain.

“It’s disappointing because we met and got on well but people move on and it doesn’t affect my position at all.

“He told me in confidence that he was going so it doesn’t come as a shock and it won’t affect the budget that I’m working with.

“So it’s business as usual as far as I’m concerned and I look forward to working with the new chairman when he comes in.”

Butcher is still waiting to hear back from several transfer targets as he looks to rebuild his squad ahead of pre-season training, which begins on June 29.

“We have put the offers out there and hopefully we will have some positive news soon,” said the Exiles boss.
