SETH Nana Twumasi is hopeful that he’s joined a club set to challenge for promotion, rather than one that will be battling relegation.

The 25-year old Ghanaian born defender, who has represented England from U16 to U20 level, made his first bow in County colours on Tuesday, scoring in the Exiles’ 5-3 friendly victory over Undy Athletic.

The right back, equally comfortable in midfield, played 45 minutes and is set for another run-out at Port Talbot this Saturday.

However, former Chelsea youth team captain is already eyeing the start of the campaign and a winning start at that after enduring relegation with Yeovil last term.

“The aim is to be a lot closer to the promotion than relegation end of the table, that is definite,” he told Argus Sport.

“Obviously last year wasn’t great, it was hard how it went, but this is a different opportunity and challenge and hopefully this time we can challenge for promotion.”

Twumasi says he’s settled well at the club, despite gruelling training sessions which are being spread around the area.

“So far it has been good, different to what I’m used to, but I’m looking forward to working for the manager and with the team here,” he said.

“The facilities aren’t quite the same, moving training grounds, but as long as I am on the training pitch I am happy. Our job is to play football.

“I think we’ve got very good players, so I am expecting big things.”

Twumasi, who joined with another ex-Yeovil man in Nathan Ralph, admits he’s not been quite so lost in terms of fitting in with a new dressing room.

“It’s good when you come to a new club if you have some familiar faces,” he said.

“I joined with Nathan Ralph and I know Rhys Taylor from my Chelsea days and Medy Elito as well from playing for England together.

“It is good seeing them here; it makes it easier to settle.”

Twumasi didn’t seek advice from former Spytty Park favourite Sam Foley, a teammate at Yeovil last season, but admits the opportunity to play for Butcher was a key factor in his arrival.

“I didn’t speak with Sam Foley before I joined here, but he did Tweet me to congratulate me on joining and I know he still thinks a lot of the club,” he explained.

“I am looking forward to working with all the boys and the new manager as well.

“The gaffer is an England international, he’s experienced in defence and you can only learn from that. We have to listen to what he says because he’s been there, done that and got the T shirt.”

Foley has already backed Twumasi to be a hit in Wales.

“Seth is strong and physical and he’s honest,” he said. “He’ll put his body on the line for the club and really fight for the cause.

“He has been hampered by injuries as well as he had a nasty knee injury a few years back but if you can get him playing regularly then anything is possible with Seth.

“He is at home in lots of positions and I’m sure he’ll be a really popular member of the squad.”
