NEWPORT County AFC have added another young player to their ranks, after signing 20-year old midfielder Josh Laurent from Brentford on loan.

The former QPR youngster joins Newport on a 28-day youth loan and will wear the number four shirt. Subject to clearance, he should be available for Saturday’s clash with Leyton Orient.

The midfielder, who turned 20 in May, signed for an undisclosed fee in January and will remain at Griffin Park until at least June 2016.

Speaking about the signing Osa Aibangee, Brentford FC Academy Director, said: "We are delighted to have Josh here.

"Josh has played against us in the past and he is a player that we have always rated highly.

"From our point of view it is great to have got Josh on board as we feel he is a player with a bright future.

"In the short term Josh will strengthen our Development Squad but in the medium term we see him as someone who will push on towards the First Team."

Born in Leytonstone, Josh was a member of Rangers’ Under-18 and Under-21 sides that reached the Professional Development League Two Play-Off Finals in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

Josh made 16 appearances for Conference National side Braintree Town last season.

A former Wycombe Wanderers player, Laurent spoke when he joined the Bees about a desire for game time.

“I am very happy to join the club,” said Josh. “I was offered a new contract by QPR but I was told there was an offer from Brentford as well.

“I was told about the Club and it was a hard decision to make but I am really pleased.

“I have been at QPR since I was 17.

“I was at Wycombe before and I was given a chance by QPR, I have really enjoyed it.

“But I want to play First Team football and believe I can get it at Brentford.”

Laurent has also offered an insight into what sort of player the Exiles are signing.

“I want to play football, do things the right way, play through the midfield,” he said.

“I am a midfield player, I want to get on the ball and make things happen.

“I am a box-to-box player.

“I am energetic, I like to get forward, I can defend and I think I can do most things.”
