FORMER County stalwart Mike Flynn has been confirmed as Newport County’s Supporters’ Trust first ambassador.

The former Gillingham and Wigan Athletic midfielder, who spent two seasons at Rodney Parade under manager Justin Edinburgh; is hopeful of giving a boost to the community side of the Trust.

Confirming the appointment in a statement, the Trust wrote:

“The Trust is delighted to announce its first ambassador with the appointment of Michael Flynn.

“He is no stranger to the club having been a fans favourite throughout last season.

“Michael will be part of the community strand of the Trust Governance model that was shared at the open meeting and in the share documentation. His knowledge will be invaluable to the Trust and as a group we are looking forward to welcoming him.

“The role will be developed by the Trust lead Gareth Marshman working closely with Norman Parselle.

“Gareth Marshman lead for the Trust Community strand commented ‘Flynny needs no introduction at all and we look forward to having him on board. The community side of life is already going strong under Norman and the boys building up an excellent reputation and having Flynny involved can only enhance that.’

Flynn commented: “I am delighted I have been asked to support the Trust as their first Ambassador. I am passionate about the club and extremely supportive of what the Trust are trying to achieve. I look forward to working with the Gareth and Norman.”

Speaking with Argus Sport, Flynn confirmed his excitement at maintaining “emotional attachment,” with the club.

“I’ve spoken before about the fact that the club means a lot to me personally, it’s where I’ve started and finished my career,” he explained.

“It’s about legacy for me, I want to be able to help preserve the club, because it’s vital to the city where I grew up and live now.

“I’m a businessman and a father and I want my kids to have the same emotional attachment to the club I feel.

“And it’s important for Newport to have a football club every resident can be proud of.

“So I can’t wait to do my bit.”
