TERRY Butcher has added two new loan signings to his squad as Newport County AFC continue their quest for a first win of the season this weekend.

The Exiles make the long trip to Carlisle United tomorrow ahead of Saturday’s League Two clash at Brunton Park.

And there will be two new faces on board with striker Tyler Blackwood and defender Janoi Donacien both hoping to be involved, subject to international clearance.

Blackwood, aged 24, joins on a one-month deal from Championship club Queens Park Rangers.

And 21-year-old St Lucian-born Donacien, who can play at centre-back or right-back, arrives from Premier League outfit Aston Villa.

He completed a one-month spell Wycombe Wanderers earlier this week and also played in League Two for Tranmere Rovers last season.

Butcher is pleased to have landed two of his targets and says a third loan signing – a central midfielder – could arrive next week.

“We have been looking at trying to bolster the squad in three positions – centre back, centre midfield and striker – and two out of three is not bad this week,” said the Exiles boss.

“We’re looking at the third one and hopefully we’ll be able to sort that out next week.

“I’m pleased that we’ve got two on board. That pushes us up to 21 players and we’ve got good competition for places.

“They’ve shown a great willingness to come here as well.

“There is always the danger in our current position, financially and obviously in the league, that we’re not the most exciting of prospects.

“But I think that our reputation and the way we want to play means players want to come here and play good football.”

With Zak Ansah returning to Charlton Athletic this week, Blackwood looks set to play some part at Carlisle.

“Tyler is one that we were interested in pre-season when we played QPR,” said Butcher.

“They talked about him and we were looking to add to the squad at that time but it didn’t quite come to fruition.

“We were disappointed because he came highly recommended.

“He’s a player who is quick, he’s big and strong and he’ll ruffle defenders physically and he can lead the line well.”

And Donacien could also come straight into the team if Matt Taylor is not deemed fit enough to start.

“Danny Holmes speaks well of Janoi because he played with him last season at Tranmere and he has a good history of playing at League Two level,” said Butcher.

“He’s 6ft 1ins, which is not that big for a centre-half, but he’s got a terrific leap and he’s strong.

“He’s a man rather than a young boy and he’s also very quick.

“He comes from Aston Villa so he’s a good footballer and he’s been on loan at Wycombe this year so he knows all about Wycombe and we’re pleased to get him.”
