A STRONG Newport County XI won 4-3 against League Two high-flyers Plymouth in a developmental game yesterday, writes Michael Pearlman.

The Exiles, who have several players boss John Sheridan believes are lacking match sharpness, sent a virtually full first team side to Home Park for the contest, which was open to supporters.

The Exiles gave valuable game time to the likes of Matt Taylor, Danny Holmes, Joe Green and Seth Nana Twumasi and also utilised first team regulars Scott Boden and Scott Barrow.

The young trio of Kieron Parselle, Tom Owen-Evans and Aaron Collins also featured and it was Burnley target Collins who most caught the eye, giving boss John Sheridan food for thought with a stunning performance in a man of the match display.

The teenager scored all four goals for the Exiles, twice putting them in front before a penalty earned parity for the Pilgrims, who then took the lead.

However, Collins had the last laugh, levelling for Newport before adding a fourth late on to win the contest.
