NEWPORT County AFC manager Warren Feeney hopes to have midfield trio Medy Elito, Alex Rodman and Yan Klukowski available for tomorrow’s “massive” game against fellow strugglers Dagenham & Redbridge.

Elito was forced off with a gash that needed up to 15 stitches against Blackburn Rovers on Monday night and Klukowski remained on the bench in that game with a back problem.

Rodman has not played since the Boxing Day defeat at Barnet because of a hamstring injury.

But all three could feature against the Daggers according to Feeney, who will be without goalkeeper Joe Day after deciding against appealing his red card against Rovers.

“Medy is OK,” said the Exiles boss. “There is a possibility that he’s going to be fit for this weekend.

“It is a bad gash but the surgeon said there is a possibility that he could be playing if he looks after it.

“Rodman trained and Yan as well. He was on the bench on Monday but he had a problem with a nerve in his back.

“He’s fine now and he’ll be in contention for Saturday as well so it’s good that we’re getting a few more bodies back and competition for places.”

Mitchell Beeney, on loan from Chelsea, will deputise for regular number one Day.

Feeney said: “I looked at it and I didn’t think it was a three-gamer but I’ve got a couple of friends in the refereeing business who I’ve relied on and they said to me ‘don’t try to appeal it.’

“It is disappointing for Joe but it’s a chance for someone else.

“We’ve got plenty of cover there and Mitchell I though was fantastic for us on his debut last week.”

Feeney wants his side to show the same commitment that they displayed in last Saturday’s 1-0 win at basement boys York City when they take on 22nd-place Dagenham.

And he hopes the County fans will give the team the same level of support as they did against Rovers.

“It’s a massive game because of the position we’re in,” he said.

“We want the fans to be like they were the other night – loud, passionate and there to drive this club forward.

“Hopefully we can put on a show and get the right result.

“At York I was pleased because you look at the results we’ve had lately and the goals we’ve conceded.

“It was a proper performance where you’ve got to dig in and work together and that’s what I demand in training every day.

“It’s going to be like that until the end of the season – they’re cup finals.

“You want them to play football but the aim is to keep this team in the League and that’s it – no matter how you do it.”
