TOP scorer Scott Boden admits he doesn’t know if he’ll be a Newport County AFC player next season as the players await their fate.

Manager Warren Feeney will meet with all members of his squad over the next two days to discuss who will be offered new contracts and who will be released.

With 15 goals to his name Boden is likely to be offered a new deal but he could also be a target for rival clubs.

“I don’t know what is going on,” said Boden. “I’ve enjoyed my time here and I’ve done well so we’ll see what happens.

Asked if there were other offers on the table, the 26-year-old replied: “I don’t know.”

Boden arrived from Halifax Town last July and proved to be one of the most successful signings made by former manager Terry Butcher.

He netted 15 times in 36 starts in all competitions, including the goal that saw the Exiles qualify for the FA Cup third round for the first time in 30 years.

But Boden is disappointed not to have added to his tally since the 3-0 win at Portsmouth on March 12 – County’s final win of the season.

“I’ve not been satisfied with the past nine or 10 games but that’s just the way the apple falls,” he said. “I would have liked more but everyone can say that.”

There was also disappointment as County ended their League Two campaign with a 1-0 defeat at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

That extended their winless run to 11 games but Boden says avoiding relegation was the main aim after such a poor start to the season under Butcher before things turned improved under first John Sheridan and then Feeney.

“Everyone wants to finish on a high and that was the aim but we didn’t,” said Boden.

“We had a couple of chances and they had a few chances but nothing clear cut before the penalty.

“We made the keeper make a couple of saves but I don’t think they really did anything either to be fair.

“It looked like a draw was on the cards but it wasn’t to be.

“Staying up is the main thing but it still matters to us,” he added. “We want to win football matches. Nobody wants to end the season with a loss, especially given the number of losses we’ve had recently.

“It was a big deal to try to get something positive out of the game and we haven’t but the aim was to stay up and with the predicaments we’ve had this season I think it is quite an achievement to do that.”
