NEWPORT County AFC have announced the signing of defender Scot Bennett on a two-year deal.

The centre-back, who can also play in midfield, had his contract at Notts County terminated by mutual consent earlier today.

He returns to Rodney Parade after a successful loan spell between October and December last year.

Bennett made 15 appearances for the Exiles, scoring an impressive solo goal in the FA Cup first-round tie at Brackley Town.

The 25-year-old finished last season on loan at York City and was released by former Exiles boss and new Notts County manager John Sheridan.

Speaking after completing the paperwork on his move this morning, Bennett said: “It's good to be back.

“I really enjoyed my time here previously and I’m delighted to now sign here permanently.

“When I spoke to Warren I was really impressed with his plans for the Club and I’m looking forward to working hard over the pre-‐season so I can hit the ground running next season.”

Manager Warren Feeney told the club website: "Scot is a player that knows the club well from his time here on loan last season.

"We wanted to bring Scot back here on loan in January, but because of the length of his initial loan deal that wasn't possible.

“He is a player who carries a great presence on the pitch, which comes from his vast experience of playing at this level.

"The fans loved him during his time here and I'm sure Scot will be a great addition to the squad as we continue looking ahead to next season.

"I would like to thank the board, who have supported me in the signing of Scot and the rest of the signings during the close season, and we will continue to work in partnership to secure further signings in the near future.”

A statement from Newport County reads: "The club would like to place on record our thanks to Notts County for their cooperation during this process."
