NEW boy Ben Tozer is happy to be Mr Versatile for Newport County but has admitted he would like to settle in one position after signing for the Exiles.

The 26-year-old penned a one-season deal at Rodney Parade on Wednesday, becoming Warren Feeney's 11th recruit of a busy summer.

Tozer heads to Wales with plenty of Football League experience with a CV that features Swindon, Northampton and most recently Yeovil, along with a spell with Newcastle after being snapped up by the Magpies as a promising youngster.

Part of his success is the ability to play right-back or central defence as well as midfield – saying with a smile that he's a "jack of all trades, master of none" – and he made 32 appearances for the Glovers last season

"I can play pretty much anywhere but I prefer to stay in one position because when you are settled you know your role and what you are doing week in, week out," he said.

"I always give everything, working hard and trying to do my best for the team," he continued.

"I'm not going to say I'm going to come here, take on 10 players and put the ball in the top corner.

"I do have a goal in me but they are quite rare. I just want to work hard and get the rewards. I am more of a team player than an individual."

Part of the attraction about heading to Rodney Parade was the chance to work under manager Warren Feeney, who has been hard at work reshaping his squad in a busy summer.

"He is a straight guy who just says it as it is, he is very honest and you don't get enough of that in football," said Tozer. "For him to be so honest is quite refreshing and I am looking forward to playing under him."

And after penning a deal with the Exiles Tozer has had to dig out his passport ahead of Sunday's trip to Poland.

County will play two pre-season friendlies – against Polish side KS Polkowice and Hradec Kralove of the Czech Republic – and be put through their paces in training with the latest recruit believing it is the perfect way to build team spirit ahead of the League Two season.

He said: "I've been in squads when 10-plus players have been signed in the summer and it does take a bit of time to get the team cohesion but the trip to Poland will make a massive help.

"Even if there's a night out over there at the end of the week, it all makes a big difference in getting to know each other."

Tozer follows goalkeeper James Bittner, defenders Dan Butler, Jazzi Barnum-Bobb, Scot Bennett and Jamie Turley, midfielders Jennison Myrie-Williams, Mark Randall and Joss Labadie, winger Jack Compton and striker Sean Rigg through the door at Rodney Parade.
