MANAGER Warren Feeney hopes that this week's pre-season tour to Poland can help Newport County capture the spirit of Wales.

The Exiles have headed for the city of Lubin in the south west of the country and will play fixtures against KS Polkowice at their own stadium on Wednesday (kick-off 5pm) and then Czech side FC Hradec Kralove in the Polish city of Wa?brzych on Saturday (kick-off 11am).

Feeney, whose side had a first tune-up of the summer in a 2-2 draw at Caldicot last Friday, has rung the changes over a busy summer with 11 new recruits to his squad.

And he hopes that time together away from any distractions can help foster the sort of spirit that helped Chris Coleman's Wales semi-finalists thrive at Euro 2016.

"You are living together for 24 hours for seven days and the boys will have fun out there, I'm not going to lie," said the former Northern Ireland striker.

"You look at the Wales team and it's fantastic with their barbecues and team spirit, Northern Ireland as well.

"It's not just about going out to Poland and getting fit, I want the players to bond and get around each other. It's a fantastic trip to us and it's great that we can do it."

South Wales Argus:

County scrambled a draw against Welsh League Division One side Caldicot thanks to a super last-minute free-kick by new boy Jack Compton but Feeney isn't concerned by scorelines ahead of the August 6 opener against Mansfield.

And with the Exiles going up against opposition from Poland's second division and the Czech Republic's top flight, the manager wants his players to be put through their paces

He said: "We are playing two very hard teams and it will be a different type of game for us – I hope that they pass us off the park so that the boys can run around!"

Striker Lenell John-Lewis has remained at home after suffering a knee injury in the draw at Caldicot and is awaiting the results of scans.

Right-back Paul Bignot, a member of Dean Holdsworth's Conference South winners in 2011, is a member of the Poland party along with fellow triallist Marlon Jackson, a forward who scored from the spot at Jubilee Way on Saturday.
