FULL-BACK Jazzi Barnum-Bobb says Newport County boss Warren Feeney has recruited a squad that will be aiming high in League Two.

The 20-year-old has returned to Rodney Parade on a permanent one-year deal after making 12 appearances for the club on loan from Cardiff City last season.

He joins a new-look side with Feeney having worked hard over the summer to bring in 11 fresh faces, with more to come.

After struggling at the basement in 2015/16, Barnum-Bobb believes the Exiles can enjoy brighter times to challenge at the other end of the table.

"We've got to be ambitious. We have got a good squad and the gaffer has signed some really good players with a good mix," said the rapid right-back.

"I don't see why in this league we can't be ambitious and say that we are going to have a really good go. Last season we might have been down there but if we get a good start, who knows?"

"I was delighted to come back and the boys have been really welcoming," he continued. "It's a new squad with some of the same staff and boys from last year, it's been easy to slot straight back in."

County are currently being put through their paces by former Northern Ireland striker Feeney on a pre-season training camp in Poland that sees them take on KS Polkowice tomorrow and Czech side FC Hradec Kralove on Saturday.

The Exiles travelled on the back of a 2-2 draw at Caldicot when they a sumptuous free-kick from Jack Compton to salvage a share of the spoils but Barnum-Bobb wasn't concerned by the scoreline against Welsh League Division One opponents.

"It was good to blow away the cobwebs and get back out on the grass," said the defender, who played the first 45 minutes.

"It was a shame we couldn't win but, as the gaffer said, these games aren't about winning, we've got a new team so it was good to all get minutes and some of the young boys played.

"In training you look around and we've got a good little team and it's in game situations where it all comes together.

"We may have drawn against Caldicot but there was loads of things going on, we are all clicking and getting to know players and seeing what people are good at.

"We are a new team and have gone away to Poland; it's not a holiday but it's good to gel and have some down time together to bond as a squad."
