KS POLKOWICE 0 NEWPORT COUNTY AFC 2

MARLON Jackson gave his chances of landing a permanent deal at Newport County a further boost today, as the Exiles won the first of two friendlies on their pre-season tour to Poland.

The trialist netted during County’s draw with Caldicot Town last Friday and did so again to set boss Warren Feeney’s men on their way to a 2-0 defeat of hosts KS Polkowice.

Jackson’s fellow striker Tom Meechan, used sparingly towards the end of last term following his move from St Neots Town, was also on the scoresheet in Poland.

Another trialist, Paul Bignot, featured again for the Exiles having played at Caldicot, while all outfield players in the matchday squad got game time.

Jackson nearly broke the deadlock in the sixth minute only for his shot to come back off the post.

However, a through ball from Sean Rigg found Jackson soon after and the former Bristol City, Hereford, Halifax and Tranmere forward did the rest.

Rigg had a goal disallowed before half-time, during which Feeney brought on Darren Jones, Mark Bennett, Joss Labadie and Meechan.

Meechan struck late on in a low-key second period to seal County’s victory against a team who play in Poland’s second tier.

FC Hradec Kralove, promoted to the Czech Republic Premier League last season, are County’s opponents on Saturday in the Polish city of Walbrzych.
