NEWPORT County AFC manager Warren Feeney was delighted to secure a first win of the season and a first three points in League Two since March.

County edged past promotion hopefuls Leyton Orient 1-0 at Brisbane Road thanks to Jamie Turley’s first half strike and a dogged defensive display.

The visitors frustrated Andy Hessenthaler’s men and held on for a morale-boosting win ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Luton Town.

“I’m obviously pleased,” said Feeney, who hadn’t tasted victory since March 12.

“There’s been a lot of negativity and a lot of doubt this week but it’s a new team and I thought we went about our job superbly against probably one of the favourites for the league.

“Obviously you’re going to have to defend and we defended in numbers.

“And we kept a clean sheet, which is the big thing for me.

“We won’t get carried away but I’ve said before that Leicester are the benchmark.

“If you get a good changing room and a good work ethic you can achieve anything.

“We showed that today and I’m absolutely delighted, not just for the players but for the fans and the whole club because they deserved that.”
