WARREN Feeney may still be trying to lure free agent striker Reuben Reid to Rodney Parade but he has declared himself happy with his deadline day deals.

The Newport County AFC manager brought in three Championship players on loan on Wednesday to boost his squad ahead of tomorrow’s home clash with Barnet.

First to be announced was defender Kyle Cameron from Newcastle United, a 19-year-old who can play as a left-back or centre-back.

Next came striker Reece Grego-Cox, also 19, from Queens Park Rangers and he was followed by fellow frontman Rhys Healey from Cardiff City.

Healey’s arrival grabbed the most headlines and Feeney revealed that the move for the 21-year-old came about at the last minute.

“Rhys is a good player,” said the Exiles boss. “You’ll know you’re in a game [against him]. He’s got a great work ethic and he can score goals.

“He’s played in the Premier League against Chelsea and in a higher league than we’re in.

“I think he’s going to be a good addition and I’m grateful to get him because he was literally about to sign a contract with another team in our league.

“It couldn’t go through and the kid was delighted to come here.

“We got there at the last minute. It was off in the morning but thanks to Cardiff and the board we pulled it out of the bag.”

On his other additions Feeney said: “Kyle can play left-back or centre-back and he knows the league.

“And Grego-Cox is one that will chase crisp packets. He’s energetic, he’ll run around and he’s full of enthusiasm.

“You want to create competition for places and I am happy with the signings we’ve made.

“You need to strengthen the squad with this window.

“You’ve got to get your squad in because a couple of injuries and you’re down to the bare bones.”

Feeney thanked the County board and the Championship clubs, who are paying a percentage of the players’ wages, for helping make the deals possible.

“The board has been brilliant with me,” he added. “They’ve not said no to anything, they’ve backed me 100 per cent.

“And the clubs have been fantastic. They’ve absolutely looked after us 100 per cent.

“We don’t have the luxury [of a big budget] but we wanted to do business and it’s a chance for the kids as well and credit to the three clubs for what they’ve done.

“The same with Swansea with Josh [Sheehan] and Bournemouth as well [with Jordan Green].”

Meanwhile, Ben Jones - younger brother of first team defender Darren - has joined Abergavenny Town on loan until January.

Fellow County youngsters Dafydd Jones, Andrew Evans, Kyron Tolland and Jake Young have also gone out on loan to Monmouth Town, Chepstow Town, Penybont and Caerleon respectively.
