NEWPORT County AFC manager Warren Feeney may have missed out on signing Reuben Reid but he’s declared himself happy with his attacking options.

Feeney revealed that he would not be signing free agent Reid after Saturday’s League Two clash was abandoned at half-time due to a waterlogged pitch at Rodney Parade.

But after signing Reece Grego-Cox and Rhys Healey on transfer deadline day to compete with Jon Parkin, Sean Rigg, Marlon Jackson and Jordan Green, he has plenty of forwards to choose from.

Asked about former Plymouth Argyle front man Reid, Feeney said: “That is probably dead. I spoke to Reuben but I think it’s probably gone now. I’m going to leave that.

“He’s going to look at other things but I’m not going to wait around so we’ll put that one to bed.

“He’s a great player and it’s his decision. He’s a great friend of mine and I’m sure he’ll go on to sign for a club and enjoy his football again.”

Feeney was impressed by Grego-Cox after he handed the Queens Park Rangers teenager his debut on Saturday.

“He’s a good kid,” said the Exiles boss. “He plays anywhere across the front and I’ve been trying to get him for a couple of months.

“You know what you’re going to get out of him and he’s had a fantastic debut. The fans really took to him.

“He’s come from a great club and he’s got a good grounding.

“You can see why he’s made his debut for QPR – he’s certainly got ability.

“He’s one who’ll get people excited – get them off their seats.

“I thought he was different class. He really looked positive, got into some fantastic positions and I was very pleased.”

And, having left Green and winger Jennison Myrie-Williams out of the squad on Saturday, Feeney is pleased to have selection headaches.

“I’ve got good competition now and that’s what I want,” he said. “I left Jordan Green out of the squad after he scored the other night.

“And Jennison is a fantastic player and a good pro but I just thought what way we could affect Barnet because they’re a strong physical team.

“I think with the players I’ve brought in I’ve got a good squad.

“I’ve said to the boys that no one is safe anymore and that’s what you want.

“There are good pros I’ve left out of the squad and I’ve got Ben Tozer and Jamie Turley busting to get out on the pitch but they could be called upon next week and that’s football.

“You can’t get enough strikers,” he added. “It’s probably the hardest position on the pitch.

“You’ve got to keep people on their toes and you want goals.

“Rhys Healey is a great addition as well and we’ve got Parky, Marlon and Riggy – I’m pleased with my strikers and I’m pleased with my squad.”
