NEWPORT County AFC slipped to a seventh successive defeat as Wycombe Wanderers came from a goal down to win 2-1 at Adams Park. Here's what we learned...

1. You’re unlikely to win a game with one shot

Graham Westley made a point of stating his desire for the team to have more attempts on goal when he first arrived in October but the Exiles had just one at Adams Park.

Mark Randall scored after pouncing on a mistake at the back from Wycombe but County didn’t show enough ambition to get anything out of the game.

2. Joe Day a big asset

The County goalkeeper has been getting stick from some fans in recent weeks but he remains one of the best shot stoppers in League Two.

Day made several superb saves to keep his side in the game and was only beaten by a stunning volley and a mishit cross that looped unluckily over his head and just out of reach.

3. Jones AND Meite not the answer

Both Darren Jones and Abdoulaye Meite have great experience and both can and will play a part in a crucial few months for the club.

And the pair performed admirably at Adams Park but, as the manager pointed out after the game, they do not make for the ideal partnership at the heart of the defence.

4. Williams is a workhorse

It was a tough game for the new striker to make his debut with pretty much all of the action at the other end of the pitch and County attacks rarer than a good hair day for Donald Trump.

But the former Peterborough man at least showed that he’s prepared to work for the team by running all day and defending with purpose from the front.

5. More signings needed

Jaanai Gordon was not deemed ready to play a part but he should be up to speed in time for Saturday’s trip to Stevenage and Westley hopes to have more new additions by the weekend as well.

And they are desperately needed. At 1-0 down Wycombe threw on Scott Kashket, Paris Cowan-Hall and Adebayo Akinfenwa and the trio helped turn the tide. Westley had few options to change the game in the same way.
